1) How do I start the admissions process?
The simple answer is to call us any time at 1-800-862-1453. Our licensed admissions counselors will conduct a quick screening to help you determine if you are ready for treatment. They will walk with you and help you construct an admissions plan, including funding, transportation and detoxification options. Admission inquiries are free, confidential and place you under no obligation for treatment. Click here for more information regarding admissions to Project Turnabout.
2) Can I afford treatment? (Payment Options & Insurance)
We will work with you to carefully review all payment options that may be available to insure that you are able to receive treatment. Some payment options may include private pay, insurance, state coverage or a combination. We are currently a licensed provider for the State of Minnesota, a Preferred Provider for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Minnesota, and an Essential Community Provider. We also work to provide partial scholarships to assist people with funding and have contracts with national HMOs and other insurance companies.
3) Does Project Turnabout offer detoxification?
Yes. Project Turnabout operates a nine bed, Minnesota Rule 32 certified detoxification unit, which serves primarily a 10-county region in SW Minnesota, although patients may come from any county in the state to utilize our program. We provide 24-hour transportation services, 7 day a week, from medical facilities or law enforcement agencies, to our facility in Granite Falls.

4) Does Project Turnabout offer medical services?
Patients entering Project Turnabout are very fortunate to have a professional Medical Service Unit right on the Granite Falls campus. The unit is staffed with Registered and Licensed Nursing Staff 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Our Medical Service Unit has nine beds for detox purposes and provides initial care, including a medical assessment for every patient that is admitted into our residential treatment programs.
Patient’s medications, both prescribed and over the counter, are kept in the Medical Service Unit and dispensed by the nursing staff at scheduled times throughout the day. The staff works very closely with the Medical Doctors at our local clinic and hospital, and they are all fully trained in detox and addiction protocols.
1) What happens on a typical patient day?
Each patient is given an individualized treatment plan, which includes specific focus given to education about their addiction, helping them identify and overcome blocks to recovery, and develop coping skills which will help them remain sober and participate in either a structured aftercare program and/or attend Twelve Step recovery meetings following treatment. Licensed professionals facilitate all programming, which include individual, group, and family therapy. Psychological, spiritual, and physical fitness services are also incorporated into each patient’s individual treatment plan.
A typical schedule for the day includes lecture, group, activities, 3 meal times, recreation time and personal work time.
2) Will I be able to see my family/loved ones?
Yes. Project Turnabout believes that providing education to families/significant others and having the opportunity to communicate in a supportive environment is an integral part of the recovery process and helps the entire family begin the road to recovery. Our family education days offer weekly assistance to both the patients and their family members by building self-esteem and opening communication. Visitation times are also available each weekend. Click here for more information regarding Project Turnabout’s Family Program.
3) Where will I be staying?
In 2003, our unique facility design was carefully constructed to safely and respectfully serve the needs of patients in recovery. Our women’s, men’s and compulsive gambling programs provide separate living accommodations that provide patients with inviting lounge areas for fellowship, education and therapy. Sleeping quarters are shared with one or two peers and are comfortably equipped with bed and linen furnishings, storage for personal items and restroom and bathing facilities. Each of our program’s living quarters is interconnected to daily living necessities such as our fitness facility, gymnasium, nutrition services, education rooms and spiritual center. 4) Can I bring my cell phone, computer or other electronics?
No. Project Turnabout does not allow the use of cell phones, PDA’s, computers or other electronic devices while in treatment. Patients are here to focus on recovery and healing and not the distractions of the outside world. This does not mean patients will be unable to contact loved ones. Communication methods are available per counselor discretion.
5) Is smoking/tobacco use permitted?
Yes. There are designated smoking areas available on campus.
6) Are there visitation hours?
Yes. Family and loved ones are welcome to visit during weekend visitation hours and encouraged to join in family education day each week. Please call 1-800-862-1453 for specific visiting hours.
7) What types of activities does Project Turnabout offer?
Project Turnabout offers a full-time certified activities and wellness coach to assist in patients using the fitness facilities, gymnasium and outdoor recreation.
8) Can Project Turnabout handle my specific dietary needs?
Yes. Our full-time nutritionist is available to assist in specific dietary needs. Nutrition services offer patients three full meals each day as well as refreshments on the units. Our nutrition service strives to provide variety in each meal and follows a well balanced dietary menu rotation.
Project Turnabout offers abstinence-based, holistic treatment services which are based around the 12 Steps of Recovery. We utilize a full multidisciplinary team including licensed alcohol and drug counselors, certified gambling counselors, mental health professionals, a spiritual care professional, and nurses to assist patients in identifying and resolving problems which have interfered with their ability to lead a healthy, chemical and/or gambling-free lifestyle. Each patient meets with a variety of professionals during the assessment process and participates with their counselor in developing an individualized treatment plan, which is reviewed weekly by the multidisciplinary team, the focal counselor, and the patient.
Project Turnabout recognizes that many of our patients struggle with mental health problems as well chemical and/or gambling addictions. We currently have two full-time mental health providers on staff that meet with each patient upon admission, assist in the development and on-going monitoring of each patient’s individual treatment plan, and provide supportive counseling when indicated. Our nursing department works with both patients’ private physicians/psychiatrists and local medical providers to monitor the effectiveness and if necessary, make adjustments to mental health medications.
Family members have the opportunity to spend time with patients while they are abstinent, possibly for the first time in months or years. Patients and family members learn to talk to each other in an honest and open way regarding addictive behaviors and recovery.
Our family education days provide valuable education on alcohol, drug, and compulsive gambling addictions, emotional support, as well as interactions with other families who are experiencing the same or similar issues. All sessions are facilitated by our Family Counselor (Licensed Professional Counselor) or a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor from the program which is scheduled to participate. Each program has one day per week which is scheduled for family education. This opportunity is offered free of charge to everyone choosing to participate.

4) Does Project Turnabout offer continuing care after treatment?
Yes. The Continuing Care Program is designed to improve accountability and patient recovery rates. This program is initially twelve weeks in length, meets weekly for two hours, and is offered to a patient being discharged from any Residential or Outpatient Program who lives within a reasonable distance from one of our locations. This program can be extended beyond the twelve weeks when appropriate. Click here for more information regarding Project Turnabout’s Continuing Care Program.
5) What is the patient to counselor ratio?
Project Turnabout is proud to offer a patient to counselor ratio of less than seven to one, which is far below the state regulation of 12 to one. We believe that the counselor-patient relationship is crucial to the success of treatment. Having smaller caseloads allows counselors more time to interact with patients and monitor their progress in treatment.
