2011 Alumni and Friends Reunion Recap
Project Turnabout’s 3rd Annual Alumni and Friends Reunion was held on Saturday, September 10th, 2011 at the Granite Falls Campus and was open to all alumni of Project Turnabout, family and friends of alumni, area community members, and others working a program of recovery. It was a day full of camaraderie and a continued dedication to recovery and was hosted in conjunction with “National Recovery Month” (September), which is celebrating their 22nd anniversary this year.
The Project Turnabout staff was thrilled to reconnect with so many familiar faces! We would like to take this opportunity to commend our alumni on all of their hard work and progress in their recovery journeys. It was inspiring to see everyone so dedicated to their recovery and with roughly 300 alumni in attendance; it was an extremely positive, emotional and fulfilling day for us all.
Individuals and families enjoyed social time throughout the morning with other alumni, their counselors, and friends, experienced hay rides, and participated in a short “recovery walk” to honor those in recovery. Guests were entertained by the local band “Red, White, and Bluez” during the day. Alumni and friends enjoyed a meal cooked by the local Granite Falls Fire Department. A “Recovery Countdown” was held and when the total number of years of individuals being in recovery was added up, it came to an astonishing 434 years! Individuals and families closed the event with speakers Shannon P. and Matt B. Shannon shared about being a woman in recovery and Matt shared about living life as a compulsive gambler.
Special thanks to the Granite Falls Fire Department, Red, White, and Bluez, our volunteers, and especially all of the alumni that traveled great distances to attend this year’s event. We are looking forward to next year’s 4th Annual Alumni and Friends Recovery Reunion, which will be the second weekend in September. We are planning to expand and make next year’s event even more special.
