Detoxification Services

Project Turnabout operates a nine bed, Minnesota Rule 32 certified detoxification unit, which serves primarily a 10-county region in SW Minnesota, although clients may come from any county in the state to utilize our program. Records show that we have served clients in 53 counties in Minnesota. We provide 24-hour transportation services, 7 day a week, from medical facilities or law enforcement agencies, to our facility in Granite Falls.

Detoxification is conducted by our round-the-clock nursing staff, who are specifically trained to facilitate and monitor a patient’s health and well being during the period they are initially withdrawing from chemicals. Nursing staff use established protocols to monitor patients’ withdrawal progression and administer medications as needed to reduce the risk of severe withdrawal symptoms. We work with local medical providers (clinic, emergency room) in the event a patient needs urgent medical support in order to safely complete their initial withdrawal. Project Turnabout does not support the use of Suboxone, Subutex, or Methadone as maintenance medications for opiate withdrawal and works with either local medical providers or a patient’s primary physician to taper patients off these medications.

Patients remain on the Detoxification Unit throughout their stay and do not participate in activities with other patients. Patients may smoke in a designated area with staff supervision. Educational videos and frequent interactions with both nursing and human services techs are utilized to provide patients with basic education about chemical abuse and dependency.

All detoxification patients must meet specific criteria and have minimal or no remaining withdrawal symptoms to be safely discharged. While many patients return to their homes or communities after completing detoxification, Project Turnabout makes every effort to meet the needs of patients who wish to participate in treatment services, either at Project Turnabout or through referral to another provider.
