For over 40 years, Project Turnabout has been rebuilding lives for individuals and families suffering from the devastating effects of alcohol, drug, and/or compulsive gambling addictions. Living with the disease of chemical dependency is a different experience for women than it is for men. The Center for Women’s Recovery utilizes a model that not only recognizes this, but also helps women understand the effects of their addiction and prepare them for the special challenges they will face in recovery.
When entering The Center for Women’s Recovery, each patient completes a comprehensive assessment to assess the effects addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs have had on their physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and emotional health, as well as their relationships, education and employment. Patients who are suspected of having a co-occurring gambling problem may be referred for an assessment and/or treatment through the Vanguard Compulsive Gambling Program at Project Turnabout.
Information gained in the comprehensive assessment is utilized by the clinical team (licensed alcohol and drug counselors, mental health professionals, spiritual care provider) and the patient to create an individualized treatment plan, which utilizes a combination of education, therapy, and fellowship to help each patient recognize and overcome barriers to recovery. In addition, a certified personal fitness trainer and a dietary manager are available to assist patients in developing personal wellness and nutrition plans. Family education and facilitated group process is provided on a weekly basis to help patients and their families learn about the disease of addiction, its effect on family systems and functioning, and to initiate the healing process.

The Women’s Program utilizes an abstinence based, multidisciplinary treatment program utilizing principles of Twelve Step Recovery and other research-based tools to assist patients in initiating the recovery process. This model for healing incorporates healthy, balanced relationships with self, peers and other support persons as an effective source of spiritual help. The Women’s Residential Program offers both primary and extended care stay options ranging from a minimum of approximately 30 days to maximum of 120 days.
Clinical staff assist patients in exploring their chemical dependency, family relationships, and other co-occurring issues such as depression, poor self-esteem, physical, sexual, or psychological abuse, deficits in education, or daily living skills.
