“These townhomes are sort of on the backside of the campus from when you enter the building and they're very lovely and I know you have renovated them. I've seen the inside of them at the open house.
That's kind of your last step in recovery here, and I'm the most excited about that, of course! Because these women who are there need to (eventually) find a job. But also they have to be going to school, and Ridgewater college is just up the hill. And when they arrived there, they can complete a GED.
They can look at over a hundred vocational training programs. And of course they can look at liberal arts also that lead to bachelor's degrees. If any of them want to do that. Now, the thing about education is it helps them come to a point where their self-esteem is good. They can go into work that provides good income for a family and they become just good citizens, good people in our communities and all that is there.
And you know this next thing I'm going to say. It's very common and you hear it all the time, especially from colleges and universities and high schools and so on. But the key to coming out of let's say depression, loneliness, hopelessness. One of the big keys is education. It always has been, and it always will be.
And it's here, it's here for these women. I mean, it's just so exciting!”
