Connections Created Campaign

Project Turnabout’s Willmar Campus is a reality today because of Connections Created throughout our history, and especially those that were forged with the establishment of Cheri’s Place in 2015. Listen to and watch a few of our friends as they share why it’s been important to them to be a part of our growth and service to individuals and families striving for recovery in our communities.

“These townhomes are sort of on the backside of the campus from when you enter the building and they're very lovely and I know you have renovated them. I've seen the inside of them at the open house.

That's kind of your last step in recovery here, and I'm the most excited about that, of course! Because these women who are there need to (eventually) find a job. But also they have to be going to school, and Ridgewater college is just up the hill. And when they arrived there, they can complete a GED.

They can look at over a hundred vocational training programs. And of course they can look at liberal arts also that lead to bachelor's degrees. If any of them want to do that. Now, the thing about education is it helps them come to a point where their self-esteem is good. They can go into work that provides good income for a family and they become just good citizens, good people in our communities and all that is there.

And you know this next thing I'm going to say. It's very common and you hear it all the time, especially from colleges and universities and high schools and so on. But the key to coming out of let's say depression, loneliness, hopelessness. One of the big keys is education. It always has been, and it always will be.

And it's here, it's here for these women. I mean, it's just so exciting!”

Featured Donors: Doug & Mary Sawatzky

The Sawatzky's had these kind words to say about Project Turnabout as proud donors:

DOUG: The night that we visited, just listening to how they were going to hold these patients accountable and the life lessons that they were going to be learning that we took for granted, or we do take for granted. People know this stuff, and not everybody does, living from paycheck to paycheck. Skipping meals. Feeling bad for your family because you're not providing what they need and falling into this trap. And that's kind of that night was really powerful for me,

MARY: The safety net of the different levels. And,  you know, we can fall down, but we know that you'll have a safety net for them and build them back up and they're not on the street.  So I think the education part of a women being able to help,  women and our women. With Ridgewater college right here. I mean, it's just such a no brainer to, be able to tap into the resources that we have, we're a regional center. And it's important that we use all of our resources and it's just a great natural fit.

In talking about her support of Project Turnabout over the years, Bev had this to say during her interview: "You had an open house to tell people what was going to happen. We went to that open house then when it was fixed up, it went to that open house. And then when they had, I think they had a dedication when they named it Sherry's place. And because of that, we were at an open house No, we just felt it was something we wanted to support."

JOIN ANGELA IN DONATING

When asked what makes donating to Project Turnabout such an easy decision, Angela had these kind words to say: "...being a part of this building and making it pretty; if I have to come to a treatment center and be removed from my family and my friends, I want it to be a pretty facility.

I want to walk outside and, and have time to meditate or sit on a bench and look at flowers blooming and trees that are growing and things that look nice. I don't want to just look at a parking lot, you know, I think that's...that's...why we love being a part of making these communities beautiful and the facilities beautiful."
